About iSS Project
In the early 70s, I remember hearing upper class men and graduate students discuss the important jobs of the future. That was just before the bottom fell out of the oil market. Needless to say, petroleum engineers were convinced that the oil industry was on top to stay. Electrical engineers thought that the electronics field was more fertile. Software engineers believed mainframe programming was the way of the future. Never once did anyone mention that the real commodity was going to be information.
Yet, today we all access information via the Internet from a plethora of sources. Google is your best friend. We have all been overwhelmed by the number of hits on seemingly obscure queries. Companies today rely on that information to provide customers, suppliers, and competitive advantage to their organization. Controlling and using information is the wave we are riding today but many businesses are floundering in a sea of facts and figures. It is to those that this website and blog is dedicated.
We hope to provide a venue for individuals and small businesses to take advantage of the information they already have and at the same time maintain a degree of security to ensure their information remains their property. Subjects such as Access Control, Operations and Physical Security, and Business Continuity Planning are all up for discussion in order to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. Moreover, we will look for ways to use available information to streamline business processes by exploring relationships among people (customers, employees, and suppliers), the business practices and processes that create, communicate, and maintain the information flow, and the information itself.
The process of exploring service levels, capacity, finance, continuity, change and many other business processes will lead us to better understand our own businesses and help us to understand the relationships that bind us as a business as well as a community.
